Community Resource Hub

The Community Resource Hub is an online educational initiative that provides pet owners and caregivers with free, practical resources to support responsible pet care. Available through the Community Resource Hub tab on PAACT’s website, the collection includes downloadable and fillable PDFs, helpful links, and other tools created or carefully reviewed by PAACT.

By providing reliable guidance on common pet care needs and challenges, the Hub helps individuals make informed decisions, prepare for difficult situations, and better support the well-being of their animals. The Community Resource Hub is an ongoing initiative that will continue to expand as new resources are developed, reviewed, and added.

These free resources are provided by PAACT, a registered Alberta nonprofit society, for general information only. They do not replace professional advice or create a service relationship with PAACT. PAACT does not assess, recommend, or approve any person, pet, service, home, or placement through their use. Users remain responsible for their decisions and should contact the appropriate professional or emergency service when needed.

A step-by-step resource to help pet owners make informed decisions, screen potential adopters, assess the match, and complete a safer, responsible rehoming.

Safe Rehoming Toolkit

1

Preparing to Rehome Your Pet

Start here to explore alternatives, document your pet’s needs, and create an honest profile. Avoid advertising pets for free, as this may encourage impulsive or unsuitable inquiries. A reasonable adoption fee adds one safeguard but does not replace screening.

2

Screening a Potential Adopter

Before arranging a meeting, learn about the adopter’s household, housing, experience, references, and care plans. Consistent screening helps identify concerns and determine whether they may offer a safe, suitable, and lasting home.

3

Assessing the Home and Match

Next, use the home-check and meet-and-greet tools to assess the environment, interactions, expectations, and overall compatibility. A careful assessment helps reduce the risk of an unsafe placement or unsuccessful adoption.

4

Completing the Rehoming

Once you are confident in the match, document the transfer and create a transition plan. Clear agreements, care information, and follow-up expectations help prevent misunderstandings and support a safer adjustment.
